Meet the Team – Sinead Dow
Sinead Dow is one of our Mechanical Engineers…
We asked her a few questions to get to know the person behind the job title:
How did you get into engineering and describe your career path which led to your current position?
I always loved watching programmes to do with buildings (Grand Designs was always my favourite) and I was always interested in maths and physics. My physics teacher suggested engineering to me when I was at school, and I haven’t considered doing anything else since then!
How would you describe your current role and responsibilities?
I am a MEP design engineer; I have worked on a variety of projects from warehouses to community halls. I do the utility applications, calculations, design, specifications and attend meetings throughout the stages of a project. I also visit sites throughout the process of construction.
What do you enjoy about your role at MBA Consulting Engineers?
I enjoy the variety of projects we work on at MBA, I am constantly developing my knowledge with each new project and learning new things to improve our designs. I also like working with the wide variety of engineers at MBA, they are always willing to share their knowledge and experience of the industry.
What challenges do you see facing your industry?
Climate changes is and will continue to impact the construction industry for a long time. The government has committed the UK to achieving net-zero carbon by 2050, meaning that the way buildings are designed will drastically change.
What area within the construction industry would you like to see develop further?
I would like to see the widespread use of different forms of renewable technologies. It will take time and investment, but it is necessary.
What’s your favourite Movie?
The Lord of the Rings trilogy, I must have watched them hundreds of times!
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Swimming and attempting to go the gym!
I love going out for dinner and drinks with my friends.
